The HAM Channel (HAM 64) is a student-operated closed-circuit television channel offering a regular season schedule of original programming written and produced by Fairfield students under the direction of the Media Center. A Steering Committee of eight students works closely with faculty and staff on management of the channel and production of scheduled programming for the season. Professional performance, effectual management and high quality production and programming are foremost objectives of the HAM Channel. Operating as a replica of a small commercial television station, the HAM Channel is an on-campus opportunity for students to experience first-hand professional life in the field of television. With over 3000 campus outlets, the channel is a showcase for the creative talents of Fairfield students, a source of local entertainment, and a delivery system for news and information relevant to the university community.
As a teaching facility and a practical laboratory of television broadcast and production, the channel provides a place of learning and internship for students of communication, writing, fine-arts, marketing, advertising, and management. All members of the channel must become proficient in all aspects of the channel equipment and facilities. It is expected, therefore, that full participation in the channel will be achieved through courses offered by those departments related to the channel, particularly courses within the New Media major course of study.
Students involved in the HAM Channel are considered
club members. As a club, the HAM Channel is a part of the Campus Interest bracket of Fairfield University’s Student Organization Board of Governors. The club exists as a recruitment and promotional outlet for the Channel.
